Message the first "mods" you should do is get a downpipe, a boost gauge, a temperature gauge, and a miata thermoswitch (it cuts fans on at 209 instead of at 225 stock). then if you have the money and want to do more i'd get an aluminum radiator and ast. so you dont have to worry about the stock plastic ones cracking. synthetic oil really isn't that bad to use. a lot of people use it with no problems, earlier synthetic oils may have been problematic, but nowadays you wont have problem with sythetic oils, some say it makes the car run smoother and cooler.
